Couple new paintings. Taking a break from the rigid, technical aspect of the gadget paintings. Just experimenting with texture, colour and layering.

Acrylic and markers on wood.

I think I might call this body of work "Alternate Transport" but....meh, I'm not sure. If you've got a good idea for a name or for specific names for each of the creations please fire 'em this way.

This blue on pink one is my latest piece, same deal as before : Acrylic on wood with Black Sharpie, 16" x 16" and finished with a gloss medium for extra shininess!

Continuing with my series on hybrid gadget creatures I decided to start making the paintings larger. This one is, like the others, done with acrylic paint on wood. The size is 16" x 16" which is about double the size of my previous gadget paintings.

Brian Jungen. I just recently got interested in this guy's work. As I always manage to do with both concerts and anything else important, I find out too late and miss the show. It was last year at the Vancouver Art Gallery...doh!

Jungen is a Vancouver artist who makes sculptures out of everyday objects and usually it is politically or culturally charged. In this series Jungen examines the possibilities of deconstructing Nike Shoes and rebuilding them into Aboriginal masks.

His work has inspired me to do a project with my students based on shoe reconstruction. I'll post the student work sometime in the future...hopefully the project doesn't bomb.
